Before I delve into why protein is so important for fat loss, Ill just highlight that protein is not only important for fat loss but also health in general. individuals that consume a moderate to high non processed protein diet are generally leaner, less likely to have diabetes or other metabolic conditions, are stronger and can live longer. studies have shown that those individuals that have had a high protein diet Vs Lower protein diet BUT same intake in calories received the following positive results:

  • Decreased Body weight

  • Decreased waist circumference

  • Decreased blood pressure

  • decreased fat % with increased fat free mass

  • Reduction in serum triglycerides

According to Moon and Koh (2020) consuming a high protein diet post weight loss is just as important as it decreases the chances of weight regain. Basically saying that high protein diets can help with maintaining your post weight loss body weight or even further improve it. So why does protein benefit us for fat loss, maintaining fat loss and satiety?

Protein can very well aid a decrease in body weight, increase satiety (satisfaction with food) & energy expenditure & improve body composition (decrease fat levels). if you want to achieve fat loss, its a no brainer, your diet needs to be up to scratch! This is why satiety is so important. Adequate consumption of protein will significantly improve your satiety (especially when compared with a low protein diet). this is so because: there is a rise in amino acid concentration within the blood stream, hunger suppressing hormones, diet induced thermogenesis (fat burning)

Satiety with diet is of up most important when you are embarking on your fat loss journey

Diet induced thermogenesis (DIT) is what occurs when adequate protein is consumed
